Audiologists provide direct service to deaf and hard of hearing students including identification of hearing loss, rehabilitation, use and maintenance of amplification devices (hearing aids and frequency modulation (FM) systems), and in-services regarding the educational significance of hearing loss and student specific needs.
Consultation and professional development services are provided to Deaf and Hard of Hearing teachers, speech therapists, regular education teachers and parents on the dynamics of a particular child's hearing loss. Referral and liaison between the child's medical doctor and school staff can also be provided by the audiologist. Audiology cost is calculated based on the time required to meet the specific needs of the student.
